Picchu's Story
At the base of Machu Picchu in Peru, lies the tiny village of Aguas Caliente. As we trekked through South America, we stopped off there for a few days, and got to know the town well. Up the street from the main square, a small restaurant lies hidden in the buildings on the right. We ducked in for lunch one day and met the owner's dog, which is now the second cutest little dog in the world. He was an adorable little ball of fluff, and we kept using broken Spanish to find out about his breed and whether he was going to stay so small.
The owner insisted he was full grown, but we couldn't figure out the breed without a better vocabulary in Spanish. Right there, in Peru, Kimberly knew she had to have a dog just like that one.
More than a year later, after months of trying to discover the breed and find the right one (extremely rare in her small size), we are the proud parents of a "tiny" shih tzu puppy, whose name, Picchu, is the Quechuan word for mountain. It's a big name for a small dog, but we have always called her Picchu, since long before we found her.
Kimberly's eyes are aglow when she plays with her, and Kimberly has just a few plans to spoil our newest addition in the months to come.
