THE WARRIORS OF XIAN

The burial army of Qin Shi Huang, first emporer of China.

World famous now, but until 1974, they were unknown to modern man, when they were discovered by 5 farmers by the burial mound of the first emporer. The Communist government paid each farmer a reward of 13 cents for their great contribution to Chinese cultural heritage!

THE CITY OF XIAN

Along with its famous warriors, the walled city of Xian is an excellent place to find modern China, and it's a great place for shopping, as it lies along the famous "silk road" routes of old.

The farmer sitting at right is one of the original discoverers of the warriors. Only two of the five are still living.
The Emporer's Army includes all ranks of a real army, including this General at left.
In Xian, we visited a silk factory, above, where we saw them weaving beautiful silk rugs.
Everyone can read Chinese. It's easy. Just read the sign at right. Go ahead, you know what it says!
