Ghost City, Yangtze River, China
Ghost City: It is believed that all spirits meet here in the after life. The spirits who behaved badly in their mortal lives will experience horrific punishment here in these temples and shrines dedicated to the gods of the underworld. The belief in punishment of bad sprits dates back to the Han Dynasty of 206 BC, although the first temple wasn’t build until the Tang Dynasty of 618AD.

Ghost City is found along the northern bank of the Yangtze River in the town of Fengdu.

One month after our visit, the main gate of Ghost City at left is now a casualty of progress. This gate is now under 30 feet of water, flooded behind the Three Gorges Dam.
