Shanghai is a gleaming, modern city for China. The spirit of capitalism reigns in new skyscrapers of architectural wonder and malls full of more consumer goods from Nike and Sony than I can get at home. Shanghai is China's attempt at bringing Hong Kong to the mainland, and in some ways, they have.

Yu Yuan Bazaar and Gardens
Tucked into the heart of Shanghai is Yu Yuan, a little bit of old China that is very pretty. The gardens are impeccable with their pagodas and curvy doorways, and the bazaar is very traditional looking, if you can overlook the glaring green Starbucks sign (right) showing us capitalism has indeed arrived in Shanghai.
