ASWAN
The Temple of Philae is the most impressive monument in Aswan. (right and below) The "Nile-ometer" below was used to measure the annual flood, to set the amount of taxes due the pharaoh.
You can take a felucca ride to Kitchener's Island (above left) or relax on the Nile with your own Sheesha pipe (left).
ABU SIMBEL
Abu Simbel is the site of the Temples of Ramses II and Nefertari (below and below right). These temples were originally carved out of the mountainside, but were cut into 2000 blocks and moved in the 70's when the high dam was built, flooding the original site under Lake Nasser.
